June EOTM – “I can’t exercise, it’s raining/cold/hot outside!”

snow

Any of my family and friends can tell you how much I hate rain and typically won’t even leave my house at all.  To add to the issue, Atlanta traffic is a BEAST when there is just a few drops of rain water on the roads…but your body doesn’t know that.  You might not like cold weather, but that doesn’t mean you can go the whole winter without exercise!

I’m certainly not suggesting that you go outside and workout if there’s a monsoon going on.  But because unfavorable weather is inevitable, you need to consider both indoor and outdoor exercises so you don’t get too far off from your regimen.  Continue reading

Sh*t just got real! Digestive issues after bariatric surgery

Castillo San Felipe del Morro 5 (1).jpg

Me in Puerto Rico at the Castillo San Felipe del Morro – 2015

Remember that time when you got smart with ya momma, talked back to your teacher, and rolled your eyes at your dad?  How about when you threw that house party when your folks went out of town or snuck your boyfriend/girlfriend into your room and they never found out?  Welp, get ready to pay for all the things that you’ve done in the past and gotten away with.  And exactly what does does the above pic have to do with digestive issues?  To illustrate that after weight loss surgery, what’s going to come out of you might feel like one of those cannonballs. Meal prep week of 5/7/2017, special edition: boyfriend-approved meals

So….lots has transpired over the past few weeks.  I’ve started a relationship with a really wonderful guy.  Big, macho, brawny Alpha male.  Solid, strong, handsome, and walks with a confident swagger. A real guy’s guy.  The kind of guy that you probably imagine eating a juicy steak and potatoes with an ice cold beer while shouting at the football game on the big screen…a pretty big difference from the “salad and water” diet that many imagine you have to eat to lose weight, especially as a bariatric post-op.  Luckily, he was open to trying some of the meals I’ve made and actually like them and felt satisfied.  His open-mindedness has helped encouraged me to stay focused on one of the major objectives of my blog – to present my audience with a variety of foods that are not only healthy, but taste great.   Continue reading

May EOTM – “But I don’t want to look like a man!”

fitness and my face.jpg

I can’t even lie, I LOVE a man with a large build (think large football player-type of physique, à la manière de football player Ndamukong Suh, celebrity chef G. Garvin, actor Morris Chestnut, actor/wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and even the late great r&b crooner Gerald Levert). I’m in love with big muscles, especially big arms, shoulders, and a broad chest.   Bigger men have always been my preference.  But as a gal that’s always been on the bigger side her entire life, I don’t want to look like one. Meal prep week of April 30, 2017 – Chicken crust pizza; Olive Garden leftovers

I’m a little late with this week’s post and was really short on food prep time, so I decided to go easy and make a chicken crust pizza, accompanied with a salad.  I also had some leftovers from Olive Garden, and want to show you my choices.  Continue reading

I got such a positive response from this article explaining bariatric surgery, I decided to revisit it again for this month.  Enjoy!

This is the story of four brothers:  Tyrone, Tyreke, Tyrell, and Tymarcus.

Each brother lives in the same neighborhood, in a beautiful house in the suburbs with their wives and children.  Each brother was unemployed, and looking for a job.

After weeks and weeks of searching, the brothers happened to find employment at the same company on the other side of town.  The four brothers would each be doing the same job.  But there was one difference – how each brother got to work. Continue reading

This week I’m prepping for two weeks since next week is Easter, and I will be out-of-town for a few days and don’t want to come back unprepared  Plus, I welcomed back an old friend – cereal!

So, on the menu for this week and next are the following:

  • General Tso’ tofu
  • Marinated baked wings in a zesty dry rub
  • Spring salad with crumbled feta
  • Breakfast-stuffed peppers
  • Low-carb muesli
